National and Regional Ornamental Horticulture Priorites for 2018/2019 Research

We recently held our biennial priority setting workshop San Diego, CA held Oct 17 to 19, 2017. On the first day, we hosted a tour of three sites related to production and maintenance of ornamental horticulture plants. We visited the San Diego Zoo Safari Park which is a combination botanic garden and naturalized areas for animals, the Center for Horticulture and Research at Altman’s, and Mellano and Co which grows cut flowers, foliage and certain seasonal potted crops like poinsettia.To see pictures of the tour, please visit

During the 2017 Ornamental Horticulture Workshop priority-setting sessions, we listened to presentations about new active ingredients and expansions of current products and then discussed potential projects. At the end of the day, attendees voted on the top projects for each program via a sticker caucus.
